I was born yesterday Into a coastal, Georgia town. New trees, new leaves Novel places to see, New people to meet, Curiosity and Grace Abounds. Tall oaks stand proud, Spanish moss hangs down, Swaying in a new breeze, Caressing my cheek, Wiping away the silent tears, Of loss and grief. Peaceful blue waters, Lap up onto rocky shores, Like waves of change. The sun warms my face, I close my eyes. I imagine new beginnings, New tales to be told. New chances at life. I wonder of stories That have happened —whether real or imagined— Of lives lived, and loves loved, In the regal, historic homes Nestled in olive-colored marshes, Still reeling from Unusually cold winter weather. Life brought me southward, Taking a few surprising turns, The hand of the Lord, Turning my wheels to the East, When I aimed to make my own path. Now shoreside I sit, As the Boat-tailed Grackle Flits in the trees, Squeaking chip chip chip, Where are you? And I think to myself, I am home. --AW
