Today was simple
As simple as little feet drumming
Across a crumb-laden kitchen floor
Discarded boxes
Turned into castles and rockets
That transport us
To distant planets we can explore.
Today was simple
As simple as the sound of laughter
Pealing through crisp autumn air
Round rocks discovered
And placed in a neat line,
While the laundry sits,
Disorganized.
It will keep,
But children don’t.
Time marches on,
Relentless.
Today was simple
As simple as learning
How to be a child
Of my Father, in Heaven.
To dream and to dare
For a quiet time
Filled with scripture and prayer,
Yet growing in grace
To relish the holy interruption
Of being a mother,
To my own little lambs
Here on earth.
Our Father,
Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be this day.
Maples gleam red
Hemlocks evergreen
As You fill my cup again,
With the gift
Of happy children
Immersed in this southern temple
It all sings sweetly
Of Your grace.
This Blessed
Serene
Simple
Today

I can picture the rocks being placed…
