God,
Maybe I misunderstood
Just how much would be lost
How much I would have to lay down
When you said, “Count the cost
Before you bear this cross.”
I didn’t know
I would have to choose
Between me and You
Between flesh and bone
And Spirit
And truth
But every time
I think the loss too great
I surrender to You anyway
And find myself free
Of the weight
I didn’t even know
I was carrying
You make me lighter
Guiding me in a whisper
Leading me by fire
As I leave behind
The sin that weighs me down
The worry that clouds my mind
As I focus
On the ultimate prize:
You
—Anna
Such a beautiful lament to our Creator God. Thank you Anna. ox
Yes, I am always startled by those who see belief in God as a burden or an obstacle...or even as a means to some end (like heaven) rather than the very reason for living.
